The In These Times review of Doug Henwood's "Wall Street" digressed,

Perhaps this is one great attraction of sports. Sport is the ONLY place I
can think of in which .199 hitters do get sent down to the minor leagues.
Elsewhere, SOME .199 hitters also get to be manager, umpire and scorekeeper
all roled (!) into one. They give themselves credit for other people's hits
and send genuine .350 hitters to the minors so they don't make the .199 big
shots look bad.

Come to think of it, using sports metaphors to explain economics or politics
is like using desert metaphors to explain a swamp. Once you get away from
the abundance of poisonous reptiles, they don't really have that much in common.
