At an anti-World Bank conference in DC several years ago, the Southern representatives, tired of what the Northerners were saying, walked out and set up their own impromptu anti-anti conference. When they were finally settled, someone remarked that there was no one from India there. All eyes turned on Shiva, who is Indian and was there. The person who made the remark regrouped, saying, "Well, you know what I mean, really from India. It's not like you represent any constituency." Shiva conceded that this was probably true.
