This is a bit off the track, but I thought someone here
might be able to help.

(Please forgive me if some of these listservs weren't completely designed
for this kind of request-- I need all the help I can get)

We at the Worcester Phoenix (Worcester, MA) are doing an investigation
that involves the militarization of police forces across this country.
"Militarization" means that military-style skills such as machine-gun
operation, deadly hand-to-hand, and teargassing are being taught to
recruits and cadets as part of the NORMAL training of police.
Interestingly, this has been happening in towns and cities with large
minority influxes.

We need to know of "watchdog" organizations whose purpose is to monitor
these kinds of national trends. We also could use the names, adresses,
phone #s, and/or papers of anybody you know of who has ever covered this
type of issue, or even done research into it, or ever done a study
(privately or publicly funded) on it, or even knows something about it.

Also of use would be professors or activists doing research into this
area, preferably (tho not necessarily by any means) from a Criminology
Dept, or maybe Social Justice (or some such synonym).

WE HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED THE ACLU, so thanks anyway. There has GOT to
be more people concerned about this than just the ACLU, but damned if
they're not impossible to find....

Please email me privately-- [EMAIL PROTECTED] with any info or
leads that you can provide. Sooner the better, too.

Thank you all for your patience and help.
