This is a good point (below).  Airline quality may well have deteriorated. 
 Certainly the food has.  What has happened to accidents however?  And how 
about timeliness?

There may be a real opportunity for a contribution here, in terms of 
documenting goods and services whose quality has declined lately in a way 
that may not be captured by the CPI.

Doug mentions airline prices, which makes me think of airline quality.

We hear about all sorts of corrections for quality increases, but none about
quality declines.
