On the request for women in development programs. There is v. little semblence of one at American University now that the one professor in the 'Women in the Economy' Program who was involved in women in development issues has been denied tenure as of last week. I would not suggest AU Economics department as one of the places to attend for WID (speaking as a PhD student in the dept.) However, the international development program in the School for International Service has people who do work on WID. Also, some space for WID work in Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies in the Social Change and Development program, but they only take people with development work experience already. Another place that has an MA{ in Gender Studies is the Institute for Development STudies at the Univ. of Sussex, in Brighton, England. it's a 2 yr program, i think. If I think of any others, I can let you know. I don't know any other economics programs at grad level that have a field or focus on gender and development issues, whereas there may be some interdisciplinary programs in 'development' that do have a focus on WID.
