The Socialist Party of Albania concluded its recent Congress on August 26, with the decision to officially abandon Marxism as the theoretical guide to their thinking. This entails fully dissociating themselves from the legacy of the building of socialism under the leadership of the Party of Labor of Albania with Comrade Enver Hoxha at its head. This open split with Marxism and the name and work of Comrade Enver Hoxha positions the Socialist Party of Albania as a straight-forward bourgeois and anti-national political party, dedicated to serving the ambitions of the powerful European and North American imperialists now operating in Albania and throughout the world. This Party has fully exposed itself within a short period of five years. It no longer has any pretensions to be serious about tackling the problems of the contemporary world. On the contrary, it has reverted back to the period of rabid anti-communism reminiscent of the period of the cold war. Any political party that does not openly declare the theory guiding its thinking is necessarily a bourgeois party. At first the Socialist Party crudely pretended that it did not follow Enver Hoxha but followed Marxism according to their own interpretations. The imperialist bourgeoisie, nonetheless, was not happy even with this charade of the socialist party and insisted that it make a full break with Marxism. They have now done so, leaving no bridges behind them. A bourgeois Albania will be but a subservient Albania. It is too small to be anything else. Already, the U.S. and Britain are training its army and police forces. They have also established bases in Albania. With the Socialist Party abandoning Marxism and the legacy of Enver Hoxha, it has placed itself in the ignominious company of all national traitors. When Mikhail Gorbachev declared his Perestroika and Glasnost he was submitting to imperialist pressure to opt for classical capitalism against the renovation and renewal that was necessary in the Soviet Union. The whole of Eastern Europe and many other countries quickly followed suit. Albania likewise was one of the countries which, instead of renewal, opted for capitalism. The Socialist Party, in contention with the Democratic Party in Albania, is now openly working for capitalism. This is the main content of their recent decision to split with Marxism. This desire to work for capitalism has been taken despite all the obvious disasters that capitalism has caused and is continuing to cause all around the world.
