A meeting to denounce the fascist suppression of students in south Korea was held in Tokyo on September 29. The meeting, cosponsored by more than 30 overseas democratic Korean organizations that have branches in North America, Europe and Japan brought together hundreds of Koreans living in Japan. Those present strongly decried the suppression of the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) and demanded the release of all youth and students who were recently arrested for the so-called crime of supporting unification of the county. A solidarity address was delivered by delegates of Hanchongryon. Kwak Tong Ui, chairperson of the Federation of south Koreans in Japan for Democracy and Unification (Hanmongryon), and chairperson of the Emergency Measure Committee of south Koreans in Japan to Oppose the Suppression of Hanchongryon, said in his report that the Kim Young-sam regime's frantic attacks on the participants in the August 15 reunification festival is an example of fascist arbitrariness and an unpardonable crime. All Korean compatriots at home and abroad should more vigorously wage the struggle to denounce and halt the "security-oriented" suppression by the Kim Young-sam regime, and organize to abolish the "National Security Law," he stressed. An appeal was released to the 70 million Korean compatriots who live in the north, south and abroad under the title "Let us halt the Kim Young-sam regime's suppression of Hanchongryon and accelerate the movement for independence, democracy and reunification of the country." The appeal was adopted as a resolution by the participants at the meeting. Upon conclusion of the meeting the participants marched through the streets of Tokyo shouting "Stop the Suppression of Hanchongryon" and "Abolish the National Security Law."
