In my last message about the contradictory political themes in
these movies I forgot to make the obvious point that this is
exactly what "greenwashing" is all about. When 75% of the
population calls themselves "green," it's impossible simply to
pretend that environmental problems don't exist (though Julian
Simon tries hard enough). The question is how to manage
environmentalism? (And the answer is, inter alia: violence against
enviros, funding of enviro orgs, and technological innovation to
create new products, increase efficiency, and cut resource
consumption, especially in the many cases where such adaptations
can cut costs -- c, v, or distributions of s -- as well.)
