George Monbiot is not "one of Britain's *leading* environmental activists". He is an environmental activist, who *happens* to be media-friendly, to have a column in the Guardian newspaper, etc. This might in some way be connected with his priviliged, public (i.e., private) school background, and parents who are both high up in the Tory Party.
