Michael Perelman thought you might be interested to know of the existence
of our group, the Progressive Librarians Guild, our publication, Progressive
Librarian, and our list, PLGNET-L.

The Progressive Librarians Guild (PLG) is a membership organization of approxi-
mately 500 members, mostly library and information workers (many, although not
all professional) in public, private and academic libraries in the U.S.,Canada
in other countries around the globe. PLG serves as a forum for critical theory
in information, communications and education as it bears on library issues
(broadly conceived) as well as an activist organization committed to advocacy
of information equity and to the goal of promoting cultural democracy.

We have sponsored public fora on issues such as the New World Information & Com
munications Order, Information Technology and Work, the National Information
structure & Information Apartheid, etc. I imagine that some people on the
PEN-L list might share our interest in some of these issues. They reflect
our members' concern with work in the area of the "political economy
of information" (and radical political economy generally).

PLG publishes a thrice-yearly journal, Progressive Librarian, of which I am
co-editor (for an examination copy contact Elaine Harger c/o Empire State
College, School of Labor Studies Library, 330 W. 42 St, NY NY 10036. tel.
212 279-7380). We welcome submissions from people outside the field of
librarianship.

PLGNET-L is a new listserver for our organization to which you may wish
to post messages. To subscribe e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message
