You would just use some Javascript such as the following :

where is the NAME attribute of your tag, is the NAME attribute of your form field and is the
value that you are trying to assign to it, in this case your users
entered data.

The main reason for this approach is that the brackets have the highest
precedence, so it calculates the stuff within the brackets and then
works out from there, althouhg it is slightly bigger it ensures that it
will work and move safely accross to any other platform.
