Subject: [CSEAS-UCLA] Digital Asia Library Survey

Dear friends,

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is requesting feedback about its Digital Asia Library project.  If you have a chance I hope you can browse it and send them your thoughts.  From my quick glance it seemed to be strong in the social sciences and in the 20th century. Within these limits there seemed to be quite a bit of information about Southeast Asia.

Sincerely,
Barbara Gaerlan

Announcing the Digital Asia Library

The Digital Asia Library provides a searchable catalog through which
researchers, educators, and students have quick and easy access to high
quality Web resources originating in Asia selected and cataloged by area
library specialists. The catalog offers an entry point to quality Asian
materials that too often are neither easily identifiable nor usable due
to the limitations of existing search engines. Based at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, the project is a cooperative venture of The Ohio
State University Libraries, the University of Minnesota Libraries, and
the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries. The Digital Asia
Library is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education
(Technological Innovation and Cooperation for Foreign Information Access
Program).

The catalog includes freely available Web resources for research and
study of modern East, South, and Southeast Asia on a broad range of
topics in the social sciences. Resources are from various sources
including academic, government, commercial, trade and industry, and
non-governmental organizations. The catalog includes current
information and data such as bibliographies and databases, data sets,
newspapers and journals, government reports, and organization sites.
Resources are in English and/or one or more of 27 Asian languages.
The catalog offers three search options to accommodate diverse
information location and retrieval strategies. These options include
browsing by broad subject categories and a thesaurus of subject
headings; open-ended keyword searching; and guided searching in specific
fields and by regions and countries, languages, and resource types.

Let us know what you think about the Digital Asia Library by completing
our Web survey.

Digital Asia Library staff strive to provide quick and easy access to
current and valuable information from Asia, but we need your help to
improve the service. Please visit the Digital Asia Library and take a
few minutes to complete our Web survey
(http://digitalasia.library.wisc.edu/survey. <http://digitalasia.library.wisc.edu/survey.html> html <http://digitalasia.library.wisc.edu/survey.html> ). Tell us what you
like, what you would like to see changed, and how the service meets your
expectations and needs. We want to hear from you and look forward to
receiving your feedback.
