There are inexpensive microscopes that attach to your mobile phone, computer or (probably) tablet. I am starting to experiment with one to see if it works for this (and other purposes). That would also give you the option of getting a good photograph. Even a “toy” one could work. One with a

Sarah, Those are adult fleas. I'd need better images, or the actual specimens, to conclude the species. You might have had rodents nesting within the totem pole. Alternatively, you might have had birds nesting on / in the pole. Depending upon the kind of flea, it may create a nuisance problem
