Thank you for the identification PJ, and thanks for bringing Hilsenhoff's
Aquatic Insects of Wisconsin to my attention. Since I am located on the edge of
Lake Michigan a guide to aquatic insects of Wisconsin will be a great resource.

Thanks Lyndell, I will look for them. It will be a good excuse to take a walk
along the lake.

And the larvae are super duper cute! :) If you’re ever doing stream or pond
monitoring/sampling and see what looks like a stick or tube of pebbles swimming
on the surface of the water, that’s a caddisfly larva! They’re pretty small for
a macroinvert so it takes a while to spot them. One of my faves for sure.

Thanks for the photos and the conversation!

This is a microcaddisfly (Family Hydroptilidae). The larvae are aquatic, so
this adult must have accidentally flown in from outside. According to
Hilsenhoff's Aquatic Insects of Wisconsin, we have 10 genera and 50+ spp. from
this genus in Wisconsin.

This moth was found on the floor in a blunder trap. It measures 3mm long. When
I look at photos online I can't reconcile the markings on the wings with the
antenna.
