Actually, the ACLU protects CIVIL LIBERTIES, like say, freedom of
speech. I think they'd be on Bruce's side here.

So what if he voices his beliefs.
This PC BS is over the top.
If you are so offended by his by-line, to the extent that you want to
remove yourself fomr the mailing lists, then by all means do so.
I am not a Christian (I am Jewish, so I guess that puts me one rung
below Bruce), and am definitely no

hi,
in my database, normal users can't select, insert, update or
delete anything directly. they can only call functions which
are all security defining functions which give access to the
data. that's the way i like it.
however, i discovered that normal users can create new
tables in the database.
thank you all for your help. It was indeed my copy script that
destroyed the database. I now understand that postgresql shouldn't be
concerned with validating a WAL segment, that's the responsibility of
the script that hands the segment to postgres.

I believe that this is dependent on what version of postgres you are
using. What you want to do is create a role. You do this by issuing
the CREATE ROLE command...
CREATE ROLE select_role;
GRANT SELECT on MyTable to select_role;
GRANT select_role TO MyUser;

Wow, you are very easily dismayed!!
What sort of life does someone have when they go through it trying to insulate

Funny, but I never noticed the signature until someone brought it to notice.
What I have noticed though that Bruce does share a lot of knowledge in the list
and though I have not participated or asked questions, the mails have helped me
a lot.
I bet it is the same for many users like me who reg
