Well, I did some *more* reading, and created the pg_options file which contains: syslog=0 debug_level=0 log_connections=yes log_timestamp=yes showportnumber port=5432 and restarted the thing with the command: (of course all on one line): su postgres -c 'nohup /usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster -D
