Probably once per week or so I get a message like:

Hello.
I am using PostgreSQL version 7.0.2 with RedHat 6.1. When I start up the
postmaster at the prompt, I get the following response and the session hangs
and doesn't return to the prompt but I am able to use my databases and
PostgreSQL. Is this normal or correct? If not, what should I do to fix

In version 7.0 postgres waits for all clients to close their connections
before exiting. Before it just quit.

Hello out there,
I'm having a problem with a production server. Actually, there are two
problems. The semi-trivial problem is that Postgres won't die using the
service mechanism. As root, I "service postgres stop" and then "service
postgres start" after a reasonable wait. The restart w

Postgres compiles without any error. I then initialize the database using
initdb. But when i start the postmaster i get the following error message.
Database system in directory /tmp/pgsql/data is not compat
whenever I attempt to start the postmaster, I get the
following error:
FindBackend: found "/usr/bin/postgres" using argv[0]
FATAL: StreamServerPort: bind() failed: errno=13
Is another postmaster already running on that port?
If not, remove socket node (/tmp/.s.PGSQL.)and retry.
