George, if you don't want to get involved, it could be changed to
Fabrizio and Kaplan.
(Mark Kaplan was Tim's old record auction partner, for those who don't
remember).

records.
I have an Emerson and I have also looked at the Crosley and both of them just
don't cut it.
They use the same needle for the 78's and for the 33's and the 78's sound awful
and it not because they are dirty bec

I'd check eBay for a Caliphone. Do your homework. You can't kill them, you
can vary the speed (most have strobes). I like the later stereo ones and 78s
sound fine on them.

Hi,
I have heard that the Webcor portable phonographs from the 1950s do a
good job. They have a flip-over or turnaround needle and I think
styluses and cartridges can still be found. I've offered to help a
friend restore his Webcor Holiday (someone previously tried to fix the
turntable and f
Hi group,

The best deal on the best-sounding record players these days is to get one
of the "commercial" or "institutional" models that used to be made for
schools and churches. The best of these brands is Newcomb which has the
best build quality, but similar models were made by Audiotronics, Califone,
I will have to agree with Greg on the Newcomb school phonograph. This has a
ceramic cartridge, however, but still sounds great, and the proper stylus for
LP and 78 rpm records, We have one of them. The one we have is tube, although
later on they were transistor, I prefer the sound of the tube
Bill, I have an "Audiotronics" sterio, similar to a Caliphone, heavy-duty
portable "school phonograph" with detachable speakers, jack outlets, etc., that
plays 33s, 45s, and flips the needle to play 78s. I am about to take digitals
of it and run it first on Craigslist (E-bay remains a last reso
