Hello to All,
Reading all the post concerning personal stories . . . one value of the stories
hasn't been mentioned.
Sharing of one's introduction to the hobby of phonograph and/or related
collecting could be inspirational to the next generation.
As many of you know, my son died a little over 6 years ago at the age of 16.  I
always hoped that he would show an interest in all my phonographs and stuff.
My daughter, now in her mid 20s and living in KY, never really showed an
interest.  Last year we were blessed to adopt a young 16 yr old girl (she lived
with us from the age of 15) . . . but she also has no interest in phonographs.
Perhaps reading why others were attracted to the hobby would create a
touchstone for them and they would find our family collection worthy of their
attention.
In the past when I attended to Union show the lack of youthful participants
(under 18) was striking.  Yes, there are a few young collectors but not very
many.  Personal stories may be one way to increase the interest and
participation in phonograph collecting.
