Secondly, this is an expected behavior, as Thies mentioned, Oracle
trims off the spaces. Not sure whether it is configurable somehow from
your side.

using SQL*Plus and see whether you get it. I'd be worried if
this only happens connecting to Oracle thought PHP. If so, then please
