You are strongly encouraged to use OCI8 from PECL with PHP4.x. Also, no need to specify --with-oracle, as this is completely different thing. ORACLE_PATH was wrong in config.php. We were able to solve problem but we were not getting connection failuer error all time. If that page is executed 100 times, it use to throw error 30 times. It was surprising as there was wrong path declaration and half times it use to work half time not.
