Problem isn't *my* installation method chief.
Use iconv. If you are on Unix or some sort of linux, iconv is available.
Otherwise search for a windows binary.
I believe iconv is bundled with the PHP Windows releases (or actually
compiled in for PHP 5).

There're some unrecognized chars in Chinese manual. I find those chars
are translated in language-defs.ent. And the encoding is GB2312. How
could I correct it? convert language-defs.ent to UTF8?
