Mike, I'm kind of crude in my approach some times but I have been having really good luck with just gently punching my pinholes right through the tin can by tapping studio pin into a 2X4 and using a refrigerator magnet[the free business card size] as a shutter. I'm more of a stick a hole in it and

[pinhole-discussion] Tin Hole and Starbucks Cans

Thanks for the advice on cutting holes in tin cans. I wanted to share a can idea I stumbled upon at Starbucks. I looked for those Republic of Tea canisters that are good for 4x5 cylindrical setups. They were out of stock, but had these "Mocha Roca" butterscotch tins that are the same height,

Thanks to all who replied to my post. I have attached a shot showing one of the results. I did some testing first but in keeping with the nature of pinhole photography I relied heavily on serendipity. The shot is of the band Ministry, although you would never know it, The exposures were 15-30 secs

Let me add my thanks. The pinhole swap is the most fun I've had getting the mail since I was at summer camp way too many years ago. Unlike David, it hasn't made my wife more understanding of my sudden passion for pinholes - she points out to me over and over, as I show her the images I'm getting,

I used the fancy "buy it from Adorama" Finney pinhole lenscap on my old F3, and on my F100. The sharpness of the images was really disappointing. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with using it on a D100. The problem of dust on the sensor is annoying enough without putting an open hole over it.

Bob, I think you'll find that using photo paper in full sunlight will yield very contrasty negatives. For a better tonal rendition, use a yellow (K8) filter when exposing the negative. Some people recommend moving the filter during the exposure so that the pinhole camera will not focus the sp

- Original Message - From: "Guillermo" BTW, you don't need a hole 1/2" in diameter, 1/8" to 3/16" is more than enough. The smaller the hole the easier it is to drill it w/o tearing the tin. A dremel drill with a conical bit (#125) is perfect to do this. Guillermo

A 'step drill' works well in thin sheet metal. Much better than a normal twist drill. Places like Home Depot have them. There's a picture of one at: http://www.widgetsupply.com/Power-Tool-Accessories/drill/step-drill-bits/BCZ24-2.jpg

I've found that step drill bits work the best for drilling a hole in a tin. They don't tear the thin metal like a regular drill bit. I haven't tried a hole punch. - Original Message - From: "Michael Heath" To: Sent: Saturday, February 01, 2003 6:07 PM Subject: [pinhole-discussion] Tin
