I actually made a mistake in my initial message. The three packages
required for GeoDjango which aren't in Etch Backports (and, if some kind
soul creates them, /please/ include both i386 and x86_64 versions) are:
* postgresql-8.3-postgis
* libgeos-3.0.0
* libgeos

Currently mapserver works by compiling without optimization (or
recompiling both mapserver and gdal with the same version).
Qgis has still issues, but Qgis is not present in lenny anyway.
It is still not clear to me if it is an issue of Qgis which
is exploited by G
