I can confirm this.
I believe this is due to a CMake option not set:
-DENABLE_MEDIAPLAYER=on
This enables qtmultimedia support and is disabled by default.

According to

comment #9, the option "-DENABLE_MEDIAPLAYER=ON" for cmake is
required so that digikam manages video.

Dear Steve, dear Pino, dear KDE Extras packaging team,
I installed digikam, kipi plugins from experimental. I added ffmpegthumbs
for thumbnails. I also added mplayerthumbs later just in case.
It basically appears to work, but it does not displ
