the patch has been applied upstream and is within the "post 0.8" patches in
the new revision.

I've used vlc 2.0 today in testing for the first time and I had a
similar problem,
it wouldn't play audio files and freeze. I didn't try with video
files. I erased the
config directory in ~/.config/vlc and it runs fine again.
