I often find myself explaining to users that votes on Bugzilla tickets
are generally meaningless and not used by most developers to help
prioritize work. After I explain this, they generally express surprise,
as it's not obvious.

I do vote on Bugzilla, but given the limited development resource, I
find vote less useful than the number of duplicates or CCs.
Never looked at them. Never seen the benefit.

they more or less bogus? You, Natalie, find them a useful indication. How
about others?
Are there ways to make votes more useful even?
Just as an invitation to think beyond a binary yes/no answer to the
question in the subject:
I noticed today that my votes on some bugs had been removed. Visiting
the bugs I see there's no longer any way to vote.
So I guess as a result of this discussion, voting was disabled on some products?

Yes, I botched the communication on this, my apologies about that.
Voting has now been disabled on Bugzilla. We are investigating ways to
make the CC count affect the bug janitor's automatic priority
categorization in its stead.
