I do not get this error with the deprecated flag set off. It seems a
simple error to correct (merely initialise appendresult =0)
but I am loath to tamper with complex code which is not mine.

Thanks for your attention. Hope I am posting this correctly. One of the
first things I did when I built Plplot5.11.1 was to run the c code
examples. Example x07c.c runs fine and displays the character #(855) –
an arrow head in a Postscript file. All very jolly! So, the fonts m
d, "#(2243)"
appears as the symbol "less than or equal to" .
Under Postscript nothing appears at all for both symbols.
