newline in pre env

Recently I noticed that the implicit newline (i.e. newline without br) in pre environment is eliminated. i.e. pre a b c /pre is displayed as a b c , not a b c in the viewer. Is it correct? Is this a problem of the viewer or the parser? I'm using the newest unstable viewer. matto
