More complicated to configure but Bacula has been quite nice to me for
automated network backup.

You can use tar for archived backups.
As for the restoration process, just untar the archive to the appropriate
directory. For instance, if you have tarred up your / directory, you must untar
to /.
You can also use dd to create full disk images, but the restoration process
requires a separate
