It's the old mozilla suite that includes everything including the
kitchen sink. When the mozilla foundation focused more on the separate
browser and email client (FF, TB, etc) this group continued the
mozilla suite using (quoting
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/) 'code derived from the
application formerly known as "Mozilla Application Suite" '.

So it's basically the big moz app you've been using if you've have
been into netscape/mozilla before firefox and friends hit it big.
