An older refurbished Thinkpad T430 and earlier or a toughbook are
staple Linux laptops with good documentation and support.

I bought a used Dell laptop on Dell.Com. They have a section on their
website that sell recent models that were returned.
I wiped the Windows installation and got Ubuntu running just fine. Price
and support was good too
