ubuntu boot from flash drive

I tried to create a bootable ubuntu flash drive and the flash drive icon is now the ubuntu icon. when i click on it i see three ubuntu icons two of which give error meessages when clicked on. the third gives a window with something about demo and installation but does not install. what am i missing
