Install the UFRAW plugin for GIMP, and it should be able to load nef files. At least that's what a quick Google search suggests. Sent from [ProtonMail](https://protonmail.com), Swiss-based encrypted email. Original Message On Nov 12, 2017, 18:13, Michael wrote: > that is what

that is what I was thinking. I really just want to see if I can get Gimp to do what darktable seems to be doing (rebooting my system). On Sun, Nov 12, 2017 at 8:05 PM, Stephen Partington wrote: > Because gimp is not a RAW processor. That is why darktable and lightroom > are so important. You use

Because gimp is not a RAW processor. That is why darktable and lightroom are so important. You use them as your raw processor then export to gimp. This article is for Adobe products but it explains the basics well https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-editing/camera-raw-vs-photoshop/ On Nov

Why doesn't gimp open nef correctly? The image it opens is 100x200 pxls and when I zoom in it is all pixelated. -- :-)~MIKE~(-: --- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail setting

My machine is rebooting after Darktable runs for 10-30 minutes. I think it is the videocard but from the list they say it can be a number of reasons it does thiis. What can I do to nail down the reason for the reboot/crash (did I mention that sometimes the system crashes)? The reason I think it is

Also from a FOSS perspective, PNG was built from the ground up as an open format. TIFF I think has opened up, but once upon a time it was patent encumbered to a degree, like GIF. Upon further research I have learned that (at least in GIMP) you can save TIFFs using the same compression algorithm

I love PNG for many things. But when dealing with Raw portability sometimes a Tiff is needed. The real challenge is what is your end goal and what are you looking to do with it. I acutually use JPG to protect my images from full theft because only i have access to the 100% RAW image. my Jpg's at be

TIFF is basically a bitmap format (1 pixel = 1 byte per color value, so 1 pixel = 3 bytes for a 24-bit image). TIFF does have a compression option, PNG is a lossless compression, not unlike a ZIP archive, but with an efficient compression algorithm. Though not a perfect analogy, 1 pixel <= 3 byt
