I think the original recommendation for SQLite was for applications
either local to the computer, or accessed by only a few and not every
few seconds. It was a way to gain the advantages of dBase when

IIRC dBase could make only CLI forms, not GUI forms. If one is willing
to restrict one's self to CLI on an 80x25 screen, it's trivial in any
language to create functions say

I was heavily into the xBase dialects from 1986 to 2000. I stared with
dBaseII, then dBaseIII, and was exposed to dBaseIII+. In those early
days I preferred dBaseIII over dBase III+ because in those days I had an
8088 CPU with 640k of RAM, 2 - 360k floppies, and no hard drive.
