Here is what I have found out. db upgraded and openldap is NOT compatible with db > 4.6. Many of my apps require db 4.6, so I have to have 4.5 for ldap and 4.6 for everything else. I just copied the libraries back that I needed for 4.5 and everything is working okay. I upgraded everything, then

When (I) installed/upgraded it stuck the plain vanilla ntfs on my fstab :'( Just as an aside, ubuntu 7.10 inherently supports ntfs including for write using ntfs-3g as shown on http://www.ubuntulinux.org/getubuntu/releasenotes/710tour though I've not tried writing yet.

Thanks for the comments -- one more thought. I have my /home on a separate partition. In doing the fresh install of Gutsy (not an upgrade) I pointed the installer that that partition, and was able to log in as my same username/password. But in doing that, did I carry forward settings that clobbe
