scribus image import

moin moin, I found several claims that scribus can import JPG. Under File-Import it has ctrl-D for pictures, but it's greyed out. Tried just using ctrl-D, but that's also a nogo. Am I missing some plugin? Did Ubuntu cripple it for some reason? Package description includes importing JPG, so

Sounds like a problem with your video card (not enough video RAM?) or a specific application causing problems. The problem sounds like it would be difficult to diagnose with just this information. Do you use any desktop effects? What kind of video card do you have, what driver are you using? Also,

You can skip the overhead of opening the GIMP the second time to save the pdf as a jpg. If you have ImageMagick installed, you can just use ImageMagick's convert command like so: convert pdf_file.pdf -size WxH jpg_file.jpg or for a more specific example convert dog.pdf -size 640x480 dog.jpg If
