Where would it be held?
Somewhere between west and east side so that more people can come?
I sadly won't be able to make it in all likelihood. if it was at, like,
7.31, perhaps but probably no 4.31 :(

Hello collective intelligence (REALLY? :)
This is the short story:
This has worked before. I've done it 9568705738563 times in real machines
and VMWare machines. First time in VBox though...
I got a computer and rsync(ed) everything to a filesystem in a VBox machine.
GRUB(ed) it without prob
Generally the forums on the specific Open Source sites are also fairly good:

It was a blonde moment...:)
I actually did my research, found, and fixed the issue.
It was a combination of several problems that I don't quite understand and
that I don't quite care either.
It's working now.
Thanks!

I'm using AWS (i.e., the online disk space portion) on a pretty
regular basis for small online backups and automated synchronization
between devices. Have been using it since Fall 08 and am very
pleased.
As for Elastic Computing (EC2), last year I kicked the tires on couple
virtual computer image
These have always been sufficient for my general purpose needs:

They even provide the scripts they used to build them.
Otherwise I have made my own AMIs.

How's it going Mike?

Been really getting into the APIs lately. the scaling potential for
EC2 apps is awesome. The primary detractor is price.
I might publish my AMI, its Ubuntu + Java web stack. Also, thanks
again to Lisa for working out some of the initial problems I had with
SSH keys.

Cool. We're galaxies away from the days of (slowly) loading Linux on
(usually surplus) gear using 20 or so (rawrite created) 1.44MB
floppies :-P. Good times.
Not sure if this has hit PLUGer's screens yet:
"IBM Software Available on EC2 With Pay-As-You-Go Licensing Model"
http://aws.typepad.com/a
The high price is only one drawback of using EC2 as a "leased" host.
It makes a huge amount of sense if you use the API to launch instances
and do work for you. That is assuming you don't have a lot of data
to transfer because that become time and money consuming. But if you
think caref
What I was meaning is that it isn't always quiet on plug then I
realized that it wasn't; I was just deleting plug email.

Well if you say it's about $80 a month, WITHOUT the data transfer costs,
that $960 a year.
For $960, I could build a sweet little Quad core system, and run VmWare or
Virtual Box
Maybe a 64bit version of linux, with 8 or 16 GB of memory.
I should be able to run a few VM's with that, all with my
