Is there a viable linux utility to convert a pdf file to html?
Or, is there a win app that is known to work with wine?
Or, is there an app to convert a pdf file to an open office document
with rtf formatting retained?
(I know pdftotext works for extracting ascii text only.)

Submit the Adobe PDF as a MIME attachment in an e-mail message:
* For conversion to plain text, e- mail the PDF file to pdf2...@adobe.com
* For conversion to HTML, e-mail the file to pdf2h...@adobe.com

I would generally define a server as a host which provides something

FYI Qwest on their business accounts does NOT block any port. I know
people who run servers. You may also check CLEAR they have uncapped
bandwidth, I don't remember if port 80 is blocked. Both of these are
DSL.

One last thing
Do what the main distros do, academia runs tons of distros. I don't
know the details behind costs, etc for thos mirrors.
There is a PLUG member who helped me out last year with a shell
account. This individual will have to announce themselves, but IIRC
they operate an ISP.
I can't get DSL in my area. the phone lines are too old.
