I think I extracted it correctly. then I ran ./configure then I typed in make but it said '... no makefile found.' how do you compile a package with no make file? . then I read the output in my shell and it says: --snip-- checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes

I'm curious.  What is your old reliable? I agree with bloat.  Seems Linux just keeps on growing.  I had not pondered this much, except recently when I replace a Fedora Core 2 server with CentOS 6.  I ran the Fedora box for 5 years as a local LAMP dev box. I wonder if there is a thin Linux.

From: keith smith klsmith2...@yahoo.com I agree with bloat. Seems Linux just keeps on growing. Users keep demanding MORE FEATURES, so the space that software requires keeps going up. I wonder if there is a thin Linux. Of course right out of the box. I have no time to optimize Linux or M$.

okay I enabled the guest account but that didn't improve the situation any. I checked localhost:631 and the printer is listed. (weird thing, from the laptop it is listed as a different model. It works so I don't really care) 1) As you initially asked, your XP account name was changed.
