I posted this nearly 10 months ago, and still have them. At the time a
few people replied, some of them obviously just wanted them to resell
them, some for wrong reasons like use them as a game server. I did
have one serious inquiry but I was so busy at the time (I was suddenly

If I get just one of them I would be tickled pink

If someone else wants one and is willing to come help with the move I
will use my UHAUL to come and deliver to their home or office.

Alexander,
These are not cost effective for a Colo! They simply take up too much rack
space. You would do better holding a linux kernel bake sale and getting some
good 1 u servers. Power is going to be costly even at say Limelight, if they
can even do it.
Depending on the colo, these

It's easy to say plug it into your dryer outlet but some consideration
should always be paid to the current draw or wattage of the system being
plugged in.
Clearly
I think folks aren't realizing exactly what these are...they are
literally 700+lbs cabinets that require 220v power. They will not fit in
the trunk of a car, or an SUV. The actual server component is rack
mounted inside and could be removed or powered seperately via 110v (the

Er... Put me on the list, if it's still empty enough. I'm having visions of
co-lo'ed game servers.

And that's expensive rack space for this behemoth!
Did we ever determine how many and which procs they had?
Can you say conversion?

I don't think they would work as game servers. They are Sun servers,
they are not x86. even if you could get sparc-linux installed on them,
no game server binaries would run on them.
I've been flooded with requests for the servers, mostly for the wrong
reasons, from everything from using them
I have built and maintained Sun hardware like SunFire v490's E250's E5500's.
E6600's. (Although it's been a few years since I opened a 6600 fridge [as we
called them at Nike]).
I know well what they are. They expand to seat 30 processors? I am interested
to know the specs (how many and
All very good suggestions!
Note I just opened the cabinets and noted that no storage is
included...I havn't checked yet to see if any of them have an internal
disk board or not. I might be able to scrounge up a couple of D130's

I want to try everything Lisa mentioned and I can get the vehicle to

am all over this. Anything I find I can't use I will be thrilled to
pass on to others.
Tuna that mobo is still waiting for you, nudge nudge.

I found the specs and I will rent a UHAUL to move them if neccessary.
That would be great,
If there is one left, I wouldn't mind one.

They are like a 5500, so they will fit in, say, a SUV. We used to call them
end tables.

How many and which procs and memory do these have?

As I said they are full size racks...taller than I am. The machine
itself could be an end table, but the entire thing, on its side, would
be more like a coffee table :)
I will see if I can find out the specs today or tommorrow. I will plug
em in and make sure they work.

If they work, I would love to play with a SPARC system!
Are you looking for the best reasons, or is wanting to play with one good
enough reason? :$
