Well, as I had mentioned earlier, I took the plunge and updated my Dell
Ubuntu laptop to Gutsy Gibbon. Had to call and find out how to get X
working again, but that was a quick fix.

Go into the grub menu and boot into one of the "Rescue" modes (not sure
what they actually call them) and run the following command
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
And that should do it, reboot and you should be fine,

I did that and Gusty is on but sound codec does not appear to be
recognized. Everything else works great, but the Sigmatel Codec Dell
uses does not function. Any ideas?
