Yes, the penetration of platforms like linux is still quite limited, and it
has a lot to do with the availability of knowledge around you. Every
hardware fellow knows how to install windows but does not have linux
knowledge. I've been encouraging hardware vendors

I found 2 Linux users in Surat both are students.
Just to support the fact that open source expertise is certainly in demand!
Cost-saving is one thing.. the inherent robustness of many tools and the
adherance to latest standards is another bigger appeal.
We companies woo our customers on the basis of all these factors... and
guess what expertise
Google heavily uses open source technologies, and this is very well
known. If someone doesnt know this yet, please tell them and point
