Hi,
I'm running the latest version of SoftSqueeze on a Solaris 10 x86
machine which has 2 audio devices configured (motherboard audio chip
and a Sound Blaster Live! PCI card). I'm using the OSS audio drivers
for Solaris.
I'm having trouble controlling which device SoftSqueeze audio playback

Thanks. These are all good suggestions.
In addition to all the above, it's also a good idea to run sshd under
tcpwrappers. This allows you to allow or deny incoming TCP/IP
connections based on source IP address.
With all these in place, I believe (hope!) the security risks are
reduced to accepta

Thanks!
By the way, the problem I mentioned in message 1 might have something
to do with what is discussed in this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=16175
and not the Auto-dim plugin.

These are server bugs not Alien!
I think the path one should be fixed, but please raise a bug for the
url one if it occurs in the current subversion. The probelm is that
the server code is changing in a few place to handle playlists and
doesn't trap the case of a remote playlist [used by Alien a
There are a number of things you should do to your ssh connection in
general to make it much more secure.
1) Configure AllowUsers to allow only the user(s) you want remote
connections from.
2) Create users with atypical usernames for remote connections (eg

I can work around it for now. I can't blame you for wanting
to wait on 6.2. ;-)
If you are interested in an enhancement request, here's a suggestion.

That is because it was designed for 6.1 not 6.2. I have been waiting
for a solid 6.2 before installing it on my production box. I am
planning on making some changes in the next couple of weeks so it will
work with 6.2.

I've noticed a problem the last few days with the "Auto Dim Display"
plugin and SlimServer 6.2 beta. When the display goes off at the
specified time, I used to be able to turn it back on with the
brightness button (if I wanted to check a song title or add to the
playlist). Now, once the plugin tur
Same for me too. I'm on svn4218 on ubuntu.

Just did my weekly update of the 6.2 beta installed on Mandrake 10.2 and
find that Alien BBC will consistently crash slimserver when selecting a
station to play. The crash is near instantaneous and so far I have not
got anything to show up in the log using debug switches for plugins and

Thanks for the tip.
That was indeed my problem. I enabled GatewayPorts and everything works
fine now.
Regarding my concern about having a real login account, SSH does seem
to check that login is possible for the session to be established, so
setting the SoftSqueeze account shell to "noshell" won
