It looks like slimserver-convert.conf is configure for the pre6 version
of Mplayer.
The options "ao pcm -aofile" is only valid for pre6 Mplayer. Edit the
slimserver-convert.conf files set up RTSP options for pre7 Mplayer.

Some versions of bash seem to try to emulate Bourne shells too closely
with /bin/sh!
Do all target platforms have bash? If so we could change this to
/bin/bash as the default version...

For debian startup scripts check out the wiki.
Also there are issues regarding permissions - checkout that the
AlienBBC files has the same owner/group as the slimserver files. On
some installation it varies - there have been a number of thread on
this.

--d_source
anyone know?

what os are you running ?
what version of slimserver, Mplayer, AlienBBC ?
You're trying to hard to solve the problem by following every message.
Just run slimserver with a log with d_source_v and d_source flags on
and select a BBC station. Then post the log.

With some debug turned on etc.. it seems that mplayer cannot write to
/dev/fd/3
Processes are spawned ok though -

Seems i've been on a wild goose chase :|
Standalone works fine.
mplayer -vc null -vo null -cache 128 -af
volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2
rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio2/live/r2_dsat_g2.ra
This plays on my PC fine.
Standalone piped through flac in the same manner as
I still get the garbled output after 3 - 5 mins - has anyone managed to fix
this?
All other stations work fine...

volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2
rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio2/live/r2_dsat_g2.ra

URL are updated frequently by scanning the BBC website so they should
never be out of date unless BBC changes the web site organsiation
What's your problem that you are trying to solve ?
Get the standalone Mplayer test working first if you are havng problems
with AlienBBC. If you want more mess
It turns out the URLs are correct - but the -really-quiet option to
mplayers causes it to error with
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: Connection refused
Removing this option makes it start to fill the cache - but it never
proceeds - it gets as far as 18% and then goes back to 0
-
My Alien (downloaded today) is trying to play BBC feeds with the old URL
-
rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio2/live/r2_dsat_g2.ra
How do I change this ?

the Virgin station is the first one on the Virgin submenu.
Re Mplayer - it looks like you have not modified slimserv-convert.conf
to use Mplayer pre7 - it looks like it is set up for pre6 version.
You need to comment out 3 lines RTSP and uncomment the other RTSP
lines. Alternatively load up A
BPA,
I tested the Virgin station last night as another user had been asked
to test both Live365 and Virgin -- I took my cue from that.
OS: Windows Server 2003 SP1
SlimServer version: 6.2.1
AlienBBC version: 0.97
Mplayer version: 1.0pre7-3.4.2 (taken from running the mplayer
executable by itself
Sounds like you've found it then!
I could get the plugin to disable discovery mode before changing
stations?
Is there any mention of this bug on the LastFM site?

The Virgin you are try to play seems to be OGG from the "Other
stations" menu - it is run using sox and flac not Mplayer - I am not
familiar with those apps.
I wasn't clear - try running the Virigina station 1215AM which can be
access from the Virgin menu just after ABC stations.
