@Dav28: The ZIP file needs to be extracted into your SC Plugins folder. SC is quite picky on the file location, so make sure it is really in the proper folder. I will support Extension Downloader as soon as my (expired) domain is back up. The plugin is brand new, don't expect too much interest :)

Thanks for the tip Peter. Shut down the system and waited to start running it in the evening when it's cooler (we've been going through a heatwave down under). No beeping now. It started validating over 24 hours ago and has only done about a third of the library, so this will take several days!
