I'm guessing this
Background Submit Status: 2
Is the problem, but I have no idea what it actually means (I'll have to check
where this is used).
It working after a server restart makes sense, as that would reset any internal
status counters.

Could you post a bit of the log file where the song count goes up but there is
no submission?
Each time submission fails, the interval doubles.
So if LastFM is down for a while, e.g. the whole weekend, it can be a long time
until the next submission.

Hi James,
But that was such a long time ago. I couldn't find any other similar
reports in the log farther down - it just kept adding to the pending
file, without ever seeming to try to connect. And isn't strange that
somehow exactly 50 songs from after initial failure to connect got
through someho
It seems clear what the problem is - the connections were timing out.

Well, the restart automagically fixed it - I hate that! I think I had
some odd behaviour with SqueezeNetwork about the time the scrobbing
quit - maybe something crashed then. I'll see if I can track it
down.

Nothing has scrobbled in over a week now, and I can't seem to figure it
out.
The only thing I can think of that I changed is I blocked incoming
connections (except for ip's inside my network) - but that shouldn't
block the scrobbling, should it? Here's a bit of log - but I don't see
anything wrong
