MC: I would not turn UAC off, it is a last wall of defense. You would
not run a linux box under the root user either.
The reason the headless
Adding an mmm.ini to the program directory and a full SqueezeServer
rescan seems to have cracked it. Odd that an mmm.ini wa not installed by
the program installer though.

now as the ini from my old XP installation indicates it was on (and my
XP installation worked fine).

This could have something to do with the UAC in Windows (7 and Vista).
Check the MMM.INI file in the MIP program directory, there should be an
entry like this: cache=C:\Users\<>\AppData\Roaming\MusicIP\MusicIP Mixer\default.m3lib
Another thing could be the order in which the MIP and SBS load. The
