which allows streaming from a Spotify client running on a local PC
without using Squeezecenter. It allows streaming of free Spotify.
It may not be what you want but worth a read.

AFAIK, if you have one of the older ip3k players then you need to run a
local SBS and Triode's plugin. Only the Touch and Radio are able to run
without a local instance of SBS using the "official" Logitech Spotify
plugin.
