Hi Jaap
I have switched off the firewall and have entered the correct IP and
changed the port to 9000
Why this? It is port 9090. Nothing to change here.
Although I do not really know what I am doing I tried telnet
192.168.1.35 9090 and am told I cannot connect. If I try the same with
9000
Hi Michael,
thanks for your reply. I changed to 9000 as this was the webserver port
number under server settings. I assume this has nothing to do with cli?
Under Plugins cli is active.
Also not sure how and where I should telnet from the server itself. As
it is a headless server I can Remote

Yes, web and CLI are distinct services, running on different ports.

Michael,
I got the black screen as you mentioned . when I type players count, i
cannot see the type; it remains black, but i do get the following

Players Count counts%3A1
...which means you have one player connected. If you have a second machine, can
you do the same test from there? If it doesn't work, then it's very likely the
firewall which is blocking port 9090. If you have something like McAfee or
Symantec, just make sure you open
Michael,
My (headless) server is actually running Windows Home server (server
2003 based). Here the telnet was successful.
I also tried from my laptop (wifi) without success and from another
desktop (wired LAN) also no go.
I use no software firewall other than what is part of windows resp WHS.
Michael thanks, problm solved.
Added port 9090 to the exceptions list on WHS. now Your program works.
Actually it rocks!! Looks great. Thanks for all the assistance.
kind regards

Hi Michael,
I am also having a problem with the install.

get the interface, but nothing else.On the Status page I see a big

As you can probably tell I'm not a computer expert, when you say check
that the port is open do you mean in Norton Firewall (which I have set)
Yes, that's what I meant. I don't know Norton, but make sure it allows in and
outgoing connections. Not sure whether you have to check the Windows
Dear Michael
I can't believe it, it works at last!
All the buttons respond, it shows cover artwork,
playlists,searchs..everything I so impressed.
Thank you for all of your help for putting up with all my dumb
questions!
I still think it would be worth writing a short guide as to how to fill

What was the last change needed?

I rechecked the slimremote and noticed port was set at 9000 so changed
that to 9090.
Also rechecked Norton Firewall settings just to make sure ports were
correctly assigned.
Don't know which did the trick, but it works fine now so thanks once
again for all of your assitance.

To put it bluntly it does nothing!
No stop/play, No Playlists, No Search
But does it at least offer to do so? Does it display the currently song? Do you
_see_ anything? Songs? Albums? Settings tab?

No current song, no playlists, no functions
It would be my guess all though it says it has connected it hasn't
because apart from being able to push the various buttons nothing
happens.

Ok, it does display the interface. That's what I wanted to know from the
beginning. Was pretty hard to get you say that ;-).
Now please turn on d_cli
Checked on slimserver setting pages that CLI is ticked it is.
Do you mean something else by D_CLI that you wrote in your last reply?
Looking on Slimserver settings all the plugin boxes seem to be ticked
so hopefully it should be ok.
The interface still does not respond to any button pushes

Go to Server Settings/Debugging - there you'll find a list of debugging
options, one of which is d_cli. There's a link to the log file, too. You should
see all commands which are sent to the server through the CLI (command
Also noticed if I leave slimremote running it eventually comes up with
not connected message, so I guess the answer lies somewhere with how it
is failing to connect

That's a rather important piece of information... so it fails.
Going back a few postings: when you did the telnet test, did you
From other laptop when I enter telnet yourserver it comes up with black
screen and says conecting to your server and then disappears before I
can type anything else.
Anyway around this?

Been busy for a few days, but looked up the info you required
Slimserver 192.168.0.2 (on XP laptop)
Phone 192.168.0.3 (checked and is connected to network)
Squeezebox 192.168.0.5
All connected through Netgear DG834G
I changed the IP address in settings from 192.168.03 to 192.168.0.2 and
it
it seems to now get pst the 12% stage and says things like loading
playlists etc. But when the program opens it still won't act as a
remote.
What does it do then? Please don't expect the 0-9 buttons :-)

No stop/play, No Playlists, No Search
So all in all it does nothing that you would hope a remote control
would do!
What should I do next?

Hi Moko

That's most probably a connection issue. Please check

Sorry if this has been asked before but after searching can't find any
